Nepal is a glory for birds lovers and ornithologists with over 848 species (8% of the world total) of birds. And among them almost 500 species are establish in the Kathmandu valley alone. Chitwan National Park is one of the favorites for bird watching in Nepal, which offers 450 species of birds. Among the rare birds are the Bengal florican, Giant horn bill, Lesser florican, black stork and white stork. Common birds seem in the park include the peafowl, red jungle fowl, and different species of egrets, herons, kingfishers, fly catchers, and wood peckers. Moreover, more than 45 species of amphibians and reptiles are visible in the park.
Rara National Park offers Resident Gallinaceous birds and migrant waterfowl are of interest to park visitors. The great -crested grebe, black-necked grebe and red crested pochard are seemed during winter. Other common birds are the snow cough, chukor patridge, impeyan pheasant, Kalij pheasant and blood pheasant. Royal Bardia National Park offers Bengal florican, lesser florican, silver-eared mesia, Saurus crane and other common birds of nature. Shey Phoksundo National Park is evenly rich in many species of birds such as the impeyan pheasant (danphe- the national bird of Nepal), blood pheasant, cheer pheasants, red and yellow billed cough, raven, jungle crow, snow partridge and many others.
Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve offers 280 species of birds, which include 20 species of ducks, 2 species of ibises, many storks, egrets, herons and the endangered swamp partridge and Bengal florican. Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Area present over 400 species of birds which includes two species of bird never before appear in Nepal- the spotted wren babbler and the olive ground warbler. Royal Shuklaphant Wildlife Reserve offers over 200 species of birds.
